COMPANY HISTORY
Underground Services *First (USF) has been in business since 1995 with its origins here in Richmond, Virginia. USF began as a utility contractor replacing residential waste service lines and water service lines. The work volume increased steadily through customer referrals and good will through 2003 under a different ownership and management. In August, 2003, Construction Specialists, Inc. purchased the assets of Underground Services First along with its registered trade name and its good will and became a certified SWaM (small, woman and minority) owned business.
Since 2003, the sales volume of USF and the employee staff have tripled. This increase in volume has been managed with detailed cost accounting and overhead management such that the profits of USF have remained steady.
Our growth is attributed in part to the marketing skills of its President and General Manager, Donna Holt. Her 39 years of experience in banking, real estate sales, construction management, and advertising has empowered USF to build its customer base by referrals, limiting the need for advertising. But mostly our success story is attributed to the dedication of our team and their commitment to serving our customers, exceeding their expectations.
Now in our 13th year of successful operation, we have added Associa, formerly Community Group, to our customer list as well as other property management firms. We have also expanded into the commercial market, working for prime general contractors and government agencies such as VDOT and the US Army Corp of Engineers on special projects.
USF has developed its reputation as the best professional and customer service oriented water and sewer contractor serving the Richmond Metropolitan area. Creative thinking and innovation has enabled USF to solve the most difficult of water and sewer problems in confined spaces and under structures such as retaining walls, concrete porches, garages and landscaping with trenchless technology including horizontal directional drilling – boring underground, pipe-bursting and lining existing pipes. USF has expanded its market into municipal water and sewer main lines. USF now enjoys the reputation of being the best diagnostic contractor in the area for locating waste line blockages and water line leaks for determining the best solutions for solving these problems. We offer our customer base one-stop shopping for their water, sewer and storm drain lines, whether in the commercial or residential market.
USF can offer the best solutions to our customers’ water and sewer line problems whether it necessitates pipe bursting, directional boring, drain line jet cleaning, and the newest technology cure-in-place PVC pipe lining and point repairs.
